Spreads.ca secures wager exclusivity as official sportsbook of Ice Wars III
The Slapshot Media subsidiary created an 'immersive' betting experience for the ice hockey fighting event
Last week, NorthStar Gaming confirmed Spreads.ca, powered by the company’s subsidiary Slapshot Media, as the official sportsbook of Ice Wars III.
Taking place last Saturday, July 15, the professional ice hockey fighting event featured an eight-man round robin-style competition with fighters competing for the title ‘King of the Rink’.
Spreads.ca, meanwhile, offered its players an exclusive opportunity to wager on the event, providing real-time odds ahead of each round to create an ‘immersive, real-time betting experience’.
Pre-event lines positioned Chris Lockhart as the favourite to skate away as the Ice Wars champion but a panel of experts ultimately judged Ryan Devine as King of the Rink in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
“This event is designed to bring one of hockey’s most exciting moments together with some of North America’s toughest enforcers,” said Robert Davidman, Co-Founder, Spreads.ca.
“We’re excited to be a part of an unforgettable night of action-packed hockey fights and entertainment. Ice Wars III will ignite hockey’s biggest fans across the country, and we are thrilled to be in on the action.”
Based in Ontario, NorthStar Gaming entered into an agreement to acquire Slapshot Media in April, subsequently closing the deal in May.
Explaining his company’s acquisition of Slapshot, NorthStar CEO and Founding Partner Michael Mokowitz underlined the importance of expansion across Canada, with the deal enabling NorthStar to enter new markets in the country.
Significantly, Spreads.ca is not available in Ontario, with NorthStar previously insisting that it would not offer any other online casino and sportsbook in the province aside from its NorthStar Bets brand.
